What first inspired you to join the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps?

"I was inspired to join the Sea Cadets because I’ve always had a strong interest in joining the United States Marine Corps in the future. I wanted a program that could help me develop discipline, leadership, and military knowledge early on, and Sea Cadets seemed like the perfect fit."

Can you describe a moment when you felt especially proud or accomplished in the program?
"One moment that stands out is when I completed my first advanced training. It pushed me outside my comfort zone, but I gave it my all, and finishing it gave me a huge sense of pride. It showed me what I was capable of when I stayed focused and committed."

What trainings or events have challenged you the most—and how did you overcome those challenges?
"Physical training and drill weekends were some of the most challenging. At first, I struggled with endurance and maintaining focus, especially during long drills. But I kept pushing myself and learned to prepare better ahead of time, both mentally and physically."

How has Sea Cadets helped you grow as a leader?
"Sea Cadets has helped me become more confident in leading others and speaking up when it matters. Being put in charge of tasks and helping newer cadets has taught me the importance of communication, teamwork, and setting a good example."

Are there any instructors or fellow cadets who’ve made a big impact on your journey?
"Yes, Petty Officer Flores, one of my senior cadets, really inspired me. He was always calm under pressure, helpful, and knew how to lead without being harsh. Watching how he handled responsibility made me want to become that kind of leader too."

What other activities or organizations are you involved in outside of Sea Cadets?
"Outside of Sea Cadets, I’m involved in school sports and volunteering. I also enjoy polo and Jiu-jitsu. These experiences have helped me stay active and learn how to manage my time more effectively."

How do you balance your responsibilities in Sea Cadets with school, sports, or other commitments?
"It can be tough, but I’ve learned to plan ahead and stay organized. I use a calendar to track my Sea Cadet events along with school deadlines and practices. Prioritizing and being disciplined with my time is key."

Is there a specific field or role in the Navy (or another branch of service) that you’re interested in pursuing?
"Yes, I’m interested in becoming a United States Marine. I admire the discipline, strength, and leadership that the Marine Corps is known for, and I hope to serve in a combat role, possibly in infantry or reconnaissance. The Sea Cadets program is helping me prepare mentally and physically for that path."

What are some goals you’re working toward in the Sea Cadets over the next year?
"Over the next year, I want to take on more leadership roles within my unit, complete more advanced trainings, and improve my physical fitness. I also hope to mentor newer cadets and pass on what I’ve learned so far. My ultimate goal is to earn a higher rank and keep building skills that will help me succeed in the military."

If a friend was considering joining the Sea Cadets, what would you tell them?
"I’d tell them it’s one of the best decisions they could make if they’re serious about the military or just want to become more disciplined and confident. Sea Cadets pushes you to be your best and gives you real-world leadership experience. It’s not always easy, but it’s 100% worth it."
